Liu Yong earns about 60 cents an hour. She is part of the cheap labour force that has transformed China into the workshop to the world". At age 20, she has spent the past three years apart from her family, working 12-hour days at the Langsha Knitting Company in Yiwu. It's the world's largest manufacturer of socks, stockings and pantyhose; Liu Yong sews about 1400 stockings a day.
