Finland has a long history with gender equality, being one of the world’s first countries to offer full political rights to women in 1906. In today’s Finland women are offered the most generous and equal parental leave policies in all of Europe, they enjoy high-quality education, are widely represented in political institutions and dominate the labor market. With this said there are still work to be done in the field of women’s rights even in Finland. Even though the women’s rights in economic and political life are at a good level, Finland still suffers from high rates of domestic violence against women and there are issues in the employment of migrant women in Finland. Therefore, it is important for MSC Finland to support the UN Women’s Empowerment Principles and to promote this important cause even more.
